Amazon Freight named top freight-tech company by FreightWaves
Since we started externalizing our freight network, we’ve been breaking the mold for what it means to be a freight provider. That innovation was recognized last week when FreightWaves named Amazon Freight as the #1 freight-tech company for 2024.

“Everyone knows Amazon and the number of packages they deliver is mindboggling, but that’s not what this award is about,” said Craig Fuller, founder of FreightWaves. “What Amazon Freight is doing is taking that infrastructure and technology and creating solutions that other companies can leverage. I think it’s a remarkable testament to the business model of Amazon Freight.”

Amazon Freight’s tech starts with the Amazon network overall—the same network that can deliver packages to your doorstep hours after you order them. We’ve harnessed the lanes and technology to give other shippers the chance to tap into it, whether that’s through our easy-to-use online portal, APIs/EDIs, or the leading TMSs. We offer our services to customers in the manner they want them. What results is a reliable, cutting-edge transportation solution.

“We have a unique model that doesn’t exist anywhere else, and we are thrilled FreightWaves recognized that and what we are doing for the industry,” said Jim Ruiz, Director of Sales and Operations for Amazon Freight. “But what I am equally inspired by is our dedication to our customers. Technological advancements mean nothing if they don't give shippers smarter, safer, and faster ways to move their freight and that’s what we have been doing.”

Customers are seeing that in action. Since 2022, Amazon Freight has been named the “carrier of the year” for several brands, including Mars Petcare and Newell Brands. At the heart of these awards has been Amazon Freight’s on-time pickup and delivery, long-term partnership focus, and dedication to finding new solutions. According to Mars Petcare, Amazon Freight offers the top performance when it comes to on-time pickup, delivery, and tender acceptance—all critical needs to get their pet products where they need to be. Newell Brands has been “impressed every step of the way” and experienced “smoother and faster shipping” as Amazon Freight has been able to flex its assets up and down based on their needs.

“We’re thrilled to be on top of the FreightWaves list again,” said Rebecca Salt, Director at Amazon Freight. “This is proof of our customer obsession and how we keep innovating. And it doesn’t stop there. I’m so excited about what we’re working on when it comes to generative AI and large language models (LLM), as well as our efforts to increase the speed of deliveries through our regionalization efforts.”

This is the fourth time Amazon Freight has made it to the top of the list. The FreightWaves 100 is created by a panel of journalists, analysts and transportation experts. The top 25 were selected based on voting from a collection of executives, investors, and academics from across the industry. You can read more about the process here.

“What I know is that Amazon Freight has a team that is deeply knowledgeable about freight and logistics and is continuing to make significant investments in the business,” said Fuller. “I am excited to see what’s next.”
