How to easily quote an LTL load to an Amazon fulfillment center

Imagine you have to ship four pallets of your products to an Amazon fulfillment center, but you don’t have enough cargo to fill an entire trailer. This is where less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping comes into play.

Where can you quote and book that LTL load quickly and easily? The Amazon Freight online portal. It’s your one-stop shop to get rates for the route you want to ship on, track your loads on the road, and get 24/7 support. It’s, as one customer calls it, “super easy to use.”

Here’s how easy it is to get an LTL load going with Amazon Freight:

Step 1: Share where your shipment needs to go
Once you’re logged into the portal, click on the “New quote” button at the top of the page. Enter the origin of your shipment and the facility code for the Amazon fulfillment center you want it to go to (remember, LTL is only available for shipments going inbound to Amazon facilities at this time). After the system does some work, select “View FTL and LTL quotes.”

Step 2: Share your pallet details
We then need to know a little about your load so we can consolidate it and properly fit it in the trailer. Tell us about your pallets and the purchase order numbers (POs) they are associated with. You’ll then be shown a recommended freight class for your shipment. Freight class is an industry-standard rating for LTL that defines what is in those shipments and helps determine pricing.

Step 3: Pick a day and price
Keep scrolling down and you’ll see a calendar for the coming 14 days. Each day has an estimated quote based on the information you have provided. Select the pickup date and quote that works for you.

Step 4: Share your location details
Then we need to know some specifics so the pickup goes smoothly. Enter the address, pickup contact name, and hours of your location’s availability. If you have a confusing yard layout or any other unique traits to your location, put that in the driver instructions field.

Step 5: Share your shipment info
Finally, give us some more essentials about what we’ll be picking up: what it is, the package type, and the shipper reference numbers that are associated with the goods being shipped. You should also confirm your PO numbers here. Like so much in the supply chain, the small details are a big deal so be sure to input your info correctly.

Click “Book shipment” at the right and that’s it! You’ll receive a confirmation email shortly. All you have to do next is prep your load and wait for the pickup.
